Question to a SLP — 2 Comments

  1. Hi Becca,

You ask a great question as someone studying to enter a field that has so many opportunities to grow professionally and personally. I think the experiences that have stuck with me the most were in support group meetings; children groups, teen groups or adult groups. This can occur on a local or national level. It has helped me understand the lived experience of stuttering and allowed me to connect with my clients in a unique way. I highly recommend attending a support group for children and/or adults who stutter. Welcome to the field!

  2. I agree with Rita! Just being a part of support group meetings is such a positive and memorable experience! Other than this, i also have some beautiful memories from group therapy sessions for stuttering where I was a facilitator. In individual or group sessions, listening to anecdotal experiences of when someone who stutters did not need any external gratification for their performance in a speech situation is always so empowering and inspiring! Now that you’re in this profession, I’m sure you’ll gather many such priceless experiences along the way!
    Keep asking questions….
