Misconceptions — 2 Comments

  1. Personally, I have always been bothered by the idea that stuttering is simply due to a psychological factor (like anxiety, for example).

In my case, there is no clear and strong correlation between anxiety and stuttering. And the idea that I stutter because my psychological situation is not ‘calm’ makes me feel responsible for something that I cannot control.

  2. One misconception about stuttering that I struggle with is the idea that stuttering makes you less able to do things, for example go for job where you need to be ‘a good communicator.’

Sometimes, being a person who stutters means you have to prove to yourself and to others that you can do things.
