Throwback Thursdays: Photos, essays, poems, videos and words of memories from our stuttering past
These photographs for Throwback Thursday are from the Manhattan Stuttering Group’s 10th Anniversary Party in the Fall of 2004. Elizabeth Kapstein and I co-founded the chapter in 1994. The early chapter meetings were held at Elizabeth’s apartment in the East Village. Later we moved to a permanent home at the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center. What a festive and enjoyable evening that was, and reflected the broad range of groups that were represented: Friends, the National Organization of Young People Who Stutter, the National Stuttering Association, the Our Time Theater Company (now known as SAY), and the Stuttering Foundation. (And my documentary film Spit It Out had premiered in May of that year!) t in the East Village. Later we moved to a permanent home at the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center. Here I am addressing the audience, with David Steiner, Joshua Bentley and Elizabeth Kapstein looking on.
A shot of the wonderful crowd that evening!

What a wonderful Throwback Thursday memory. I enjoy seeing photos of past events, and also seeing what you were doing then, and what’s happening today. Thank you for your work with the Manhattan Stuttering Group. So much groundbreaking work you have done, Jeff.
Go Mets.
All the best,

Thank you, Nora, it was rewarding to recall that wonderful evening more than 10 years ago!
Jeff,
It’s a nice reminder to see ourselves. Keeps me connected to our beautiful stuttering world.
