Support
My name is Summer. I am a SLP student in graduate school. After reading Supporting the Supporters: Some Issues to Ponder, it has really shown me that there are places SLP’s can be connecting with. I would love to know more about these support groups and opportunities. Is there a place where we can volunteer or speak with someone about this? Thank you.
Hi Summer,
Fortunately, there are many ways and places to find support for our clients who stutter and those who support them. The National Stuttering Association (NSA) westutter.org and FRIENDS
FRIENDS: The National Association of Young People Who …

are 2 fabulous organizations that have both in-person opportunities to get support as well as online support groups. If you want to learn more, you can go to the NSA website and see if there are support groups in the city where you live. If so, reach out to the leaders of those groups to find out more about them. In addition, both the NSA and FRIENDS have summer conventions and those would be great opportunities for you to learn more about the organization and to see their work in action!
Best of luck to you as you go forward with your studies!
