Stuttering and TBI
I am a graduate student studying speech-language pathology and had a question relating to stuttering and traumatic brain injuries (TBI). I am currently taking classes regarding to these two diagnosis, and was curious as to if there could be any relation between the two. Could a person who is normally fluent before a TBI experience stuttering after the accident?
Yes indeed, publications have reported that to occur. However, the major issue with such cases is whether that are in fact stuttering. There currently is some doubut about whether such acquired stuttering is neurogenic or psychiatric, or a combination of both.
