Stutter Social – Connecting the world of people who stutter
Stutter Social is an Internet-based videoconferencing community for individuals who stutter from around the world. There are several live meetings per week that are led by a team of volunteer hosts. Participants are welcome to share experiences to learn from each other, make friends, and connect with the world-wide stuttering community.
We asked our hosts what they enjoy most about hosting. The most prevalent theme was “Connection.” This theme was best illustrated by the following two quotes from our hosts:
– I love how we are all international, yet immediately connected by this one thing we all share.
– Most of us … grow up feeling alone and not heard, but these hangouts allow us to realize that we are not only not alone, but indeed we are EVERYWHERE, and that is a big thing for our self-acceptance and confidence.
The success and growth of Stutter Social over the last 10 years can be attributed to the dedicated hosts who lead or guide discussions, understand the variety of stuttering journeys, and the importance of providing a safe place where people who stutter can share in the joy of and opportunity to be seen and heard in various discussions.
