Question
Hello! Our names are Jamie, Caroline, and Molly. After reading Courtney Margulis’s article “It’s Time to Normalize Stuttering Instead of Praising the Stigma.” This led us to discuss media portrayal and representation of people who stutter. As students, we recognize the impact of representation on how we view ourselves in the world. What are some resources of affirming portrayals of stuttering in the media we could share with future clients?
Dear Jamie, Caroline, and Molly,
HI! Congrats on being advocates for you education and learning all you can about stuttering for your future.
If you are looking for a nice media source (documentary) that features about 19 people who stutter in it, check out John Gomez’s movie WHEN I STUTTER. This film has been shown world wide and has impacted people of all ages who stutter (kids too), families, and people who do not stutter:

Contact, John Gomez and he will lead you to some great information. There was a Netflix series called Maya and the Three was a cartoon that featured someone who stuttered. Email John though, he worked on that show as a consultant.
Great question! Keep asking!
With compassion and kindness,
Scott
