New Podcast Series “Proud Stutter” Debuts Ahead of International Stuttering Awareness Day
Series explores a more nuanced conversation about stuttering, a disability that affects over one million adults in the U.S.
SAN FRANCISCO – October 1, 2021 – “Proud Stutter,” a new podcast series on changing the conversation about stuttering, debuts today with the release of its official trailer. The first episode launches on International Stuttering Awareness Day, Friday, October 22, 2021 on all major podcast platforms.
Hosted by stuttering advocate Maya Chupkov and education leader Cynthia Chin, the new series centers on expanding the narrative around stuttering to be more inclusive of all who identify as verbally diverse. Each episode of the podcast explores a different topic of stuttering. From dating and how stuttering is portrayed in TV and film to lifting up the many voices in the stuttering community, the series aims to change how we talk about stuttering, one conversation at a time.
The show was created and produced by Maya Chupkov, and edited by Cynthia Chin.
“The idea of Proud Stutter emerged, to bring justice to those who are constantly misunderstood by society,” said Maya Chupkov, producer and host of Proud Stutter. “This podcast is for everyone because whether you know it or not, you’re connected to someone who has a stutter.”
“I am eager to learn about stuttering and to embark on this journey with you and our listeners,” said Cynthia Chin, co-host and editor of Proud Stutter. “This podcast explores a space where stuttering is understood as just a different way of speaking, where the very idea of ‘normal’ speech is undone.”
The launch party for Proud Stutter will be held at Manny’s 3092 16th Street on Friday, October 22 at 6 pm.
