ISAD in Poland 2024
We are excited to announce two significant events in Poland to raise awareness and support individuals who stutter and clutter. The first event will be hosted at the REPTY Upper Silesian Rehabilitation Center on October 18th, 2024, followed by a seminar at the University of Silesia in Katowice on October 19th, 2024 . Both events will feature a range of informative talks, workshops, and opportunities for community engagement.
On October 18th, 2024, the REPTY Upper Silesian Rehabilitation Center in Tarnowskie Góry, will host a workshop for speech-language therapists and SLT students titled Stuttering in a Different Light: Diagnosis and Therapy of School-Age Children Using the CARE Model(from theArthur M. Blank Center for Stuttering Education and Research, University of Texas at Austin, USA).The workshop, led by Dr.Katarzyna Węsierska and JoannaSzymaczkowska. The workshop will focus on the innovative CARE approach for empowering children who stutter and their parents. On October 19th, 2024, the University of Silesia in Katowice, Faculty of Humanities, located at 4 Uniwersytecka Street, will host a full-day seminar titled Słuchanie mamoc /The Powerof Listening, reflecting the official slogan of ISAD 2024. This event is open to individuals who stutter and clutter, their families, professionals, and anyone interested in learning more about stuttering and cluttering. The seminar will begin with an opening by Bożena Duda, Chair of the Silesian Branch of the Polish Logopedic Association. Dr. Katarzyna Węsierska, will present a talk titled Communication is More Than Fluency, highlighting the many dimensions of communication beyond just speech fluency. This will be followed by a session led by Dr. Monika Pakura and Joanna Szymczakowska, sharing the experiences of children from Camp Dream. Speak. Live. Poland, which is designed for children who stutter.Next, Maja Pordzik and Justyna Szczypawill discuss how the InterACT program can change social attitudes and the world by empowering individuals who stutter. The day will also feature a presentation delivered by Dr. Agnieszka Płusajska-Ottoand Dr. Katarzyna Węsierska, in which the voices of people who stutter and clutter will be heard, focusing onletting individuals express themselves without the pressure of fluency. In the afternoon, Manon Spruit( from the Netherlands/Germany) will conduct a workshop on cluttering specifically designed for speech-language therapists and SLT students.Simultaneously, there will be a support group meeting for parents of children who stutter, moderated by Joanna Szymczakowska and Dr. Katarzyna Węsierska, with participation from individuals who stutter, offering a space for open discussion. Additionally, children and teens who stutter can attend a workshop titled LOGO LAB Unites All–Welcoming theSuperheroes!, led by Dr. Monika Pakura and Justyna Szczypa, providing a fun and supportive environment for young participants.
