PRESENTER
Dr. Paul De Decker Associate Professor of Linguistics
Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador & Producer of Some Stutter, Luh! Podcast
DISCOMMUNICATION, a term coined by Dr. Paul De Decker and now a short film currently in production, poignantly illustrates how DISCOMMUNICATION, a contextualized process in which one communicator disregards, dismisses, disrespects, discriminates or disables a person on the basis of how they communicate. Discommunication is the source of communication barriers that contributes to layers of emotional, psychological, and mental health struggles for pre-school, school age children, adolescents, adults and seniors.
Whether you are a person who stutters (PWS), an ALLY of PWS, family member, a speech-language pathologist, educator, or a mental health professional, everyone is welcome to attend this informative presentation which will increase ones understanding of how Discommunication can impact the social and emotional wellbeing of people who stutter.
