What is your greatest accomplishment related to stuttering?

Greatest accomplishment — 4 Comments
For me that would be to find my voice, find my peers and to find myself, the person behind the stutter.
Some highlights were when I was speaking in schools about stuttering. And to speak to the European Parliament and ask for extra time (I had three but got… four minutes!) I think that every step towards acceptance, pride and awareness are great accomplishments.
For me my greatest accomplishment has been overcoming for a time the things I would find most challenging: going to interviews, assessment centers, the conversations whilst salsa partner dancing, meeting new people and enjoying these things because my stammer had made me want to overcome the fear of doing all those things. Although, I think the real success is something I am yet to develop which is keeping up that mindset and habit of enjoying the challenges over an entire lifetime, rather than just a decade or an extended period of time.
I really enjoyed reading about your greatest accomplishment! I think it is great how you overcame the most challenging tasks, and that you were so motivated to do all those things. I found it really encouraging that you had the conversations, met new people, and interviewed with your positive mindset towards challenges! I feel as though success will always be developing, changing along with us as we change. I think it’s really inspiring to read about how you are keeping up with the mindset and enjoying the challenges, because you’re right that they will continue over our entire lifetime.
Good question and also a difficult one to answer. I guess the realisation that my stutter / stammer should not define me and I should not always blame any shortcomings on my speech was a revelatory moment and could be called a personal accomplishment.
