Future SLPs
Hi everyone! My friend and I are graduate students in speech-language pathology, and we have enjoyed reviewing the resources here and reading the stories of people who stutter. We were wondering if you have any advice for new clinicians on how to build their own confidence in working with clients who stutter (e.g. using pseudostuttering in therapy, etc.). Thank you!
Awesome question! You can build your confidence by reading more about stuttering (especially articles published on this site), attending seminars when you can, and most of all, involving yourself in groups where you can be around others who stutter. There might be a local support group in your area for people who stutter that you can attend, attending annual NSA conventions, and locally sponsored NSA events. There are also training programs like Camp Shout Out that you can apply for in order to receive more training to build your confidence.
