Career Choice
Hi, I’m Kenslee. I am a second-year graduate student at Stephen F. Austin State University, majoring in Speech-Language Pathology. My question for you is, has your stutter affected your career choice or path? If so, how?

Hi Kenslee
Thank you for your question. And my answer is a big YES. I was told it was useless to get a career, and thus useless to even go for a higher education, and especially not studying languages, as “I was not going to go anywhere anyway”. I had many dreams, all dealing with people. Health care or vet, but also being a travel hostess. I also applied for the police academy, as I wanted to help youth who got astray. But again, after getting through all the tests, a psychologist told me I could never become a police officer, as the bad guys wouldn’t take a stutterer seriously…
Skipping 20 years, I got a job as a teacher, even teaching teachers, and I love it as it appeared to be my calling. I’ve also travelled around the world thanks to my stutter, giving presentations and keynote speeches.
Don’t let anyone define what you can or cannot do. You/They won’t know until you tried.
Keep them talking
