Speech & OT Collaboration
Hi, my name is Avery Reynolds! I am a graduate student at Stephen F. Austin State University currently taking a fluency disorders course. My professor discussed with us the collaboration between the SLP and OT for sensory regulation. Is there an assessment measure or certain characteristics that would lead you to this decision?

Hi Avery,
That is a good question. I am not aware of an assessment, but maybe one of my colleagues does. I decide this if I have the feeling that the child has poor self-regulation, is very active, has difficulties concentrating and when the have problems with executive functions (planning, programming, working memory, etc.)
Thank you for this great question!
Manon
Hi Avery!
I am aware of something called The Sensory Profile 2, it’s made for different ages as well. I agree with Manon, I like to collaborate with OT’s as much as I can to support sensory needs and follow their sensory diet. It’s also great to incorporate some body movement into speech sessions to have clients practice body awareness so they can talk about tension in their body if they experience any of that with stuttering.
