Screaming Silence is a short narrative-educational film based on real experiences shared by clients who stutter with speech-language pathologist Atabak Vosoughi. Produced and directed in 2021 in Ardabil, Iran, the film explores the personal and social challenges of living with stuttering.

The story follows Ehsan, a talented and intelligent accountant who has struggled with social participation since childhood due to his stuttering. During a particularly difficult period, Ehsan faces emotional, social, and financial hardships. He experiences humiliation and ridicule, and ultimately separates from his fiancée due to a lack of understanding from her and her family. At work, colleagues exploit his stuttering to manipulate financial fraud situations, trying to place the blame on him. Despite struggling with Blocks, even on the phone, Ehsan courageously defends his rights, although he is unable to continue in that job.

Having lacked proper speech therapy in childhood, Ehsan turns to an experienced mentor who also stutters, Mr. Rabiei, CEO of the Fluent Speech Foundation. Mr. Rabiei guides him through common misconceptions, fraudulent claims, pseudo-therapists, do’s and don’ts, behavioral strategies, and proper principles for managing and coping with stuttering.

Screaming Silence – Atabak Vosoughi — 2 Comments

  1. From a student perspective, it allowed me to witness real-life scenarios that deepened my understanding. From an empathetic individual/future clinician, I felt for him deeply. I hope to one day serve as a mentor for someone on a similar journey, perhaps even intervene early enough to prevent these scenarios from unfolding. But if not, I want to be the support they finally receive.

  2. Greetings to you. Certainly, with the increase of evidence-based knowledge, you will be successful in reducing the suffering of PWS.
